Fire Safety and Warden Instructor Training Course

Candidates will learn the necessary skills and knowledge behind the Science and Safety of Fire, Fire Prevention Skills and Management, the Different Classes of Fire, Fire Extinguishing Methods & Equipment, The Role of a Fire Warden, Emergency Procedures as well as learn how to Run a Fire Safety and Fire Warden Course.

Module 1 – Fire Safety / Science:
  • Legislation
  • Statistics
  • Nature and behavior of fire
  • Nature and behavior of smoke
  • Fire prevention & management
  • Human Factor – Behavioral issues with people regarding fire alarms & emergencies.
Module 2 – Classes of Fire and Fire Extinguishing Methods & Equipment:
  • Classes of fire
  • Inspection of Fire Extinguishers
  • Maintenance of Fire Extinguishers
  • The Selection and Use of Fire Extinguishers
  • Participants will then be trained in the practical use of extinguishers
  • Fire Detection and Alarms (Overview)
  • Active and Passive Fire Systems
  • Fire Blankets
  • Fire Hose Reels
Module 3 – Role of Fire Warden & Emergency Procedures
  • Pre–fire / post-fire duties of the Fire Warden
  • General Emergency Plans and Evacuation Procedures
  • Design and documentation of Fire Evacuation Plans & Records.
  • Identifying and Managing Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPS).
  • Fire Drills – Running, Management & Evaluation of Fire Drills.
Module 4 – Running a Fire Safety & Fire Warden Course
  • Trainee will give a presentation on a course topic.
  • Review of resource material.
  • Instructor & trainee feedback and evaluation.
Programme Outcomes:

The Learning Outcomes are grouped into the following units:

  1. Legislative Requirements and Health Benefit
  2. Anatomy and Back Care
  3. Ergonomic Principles and Risk Assessment
  4. Manual Handling Principles and Techniques
  5. Planning and Design of Manual Handling Training Programmes.
  6. Delivery of Manual Handling Training
  • Participants will complete a practical Fire Risk Assessment as part of their assessment.
  • Each participant will give a practical demonstration in the use of a foam and CO2 fire extinguisher.
  • A written assessment will also be given at the end of the course.
Resource Materials:

Participants will receive a USB Flash Drive containing complete Trainers Start-up Pack with everything from your attendance & assessment sheets to your PowerPoint slideshow. There will be links to relevant Legislation, HSA Guidance documents & checklists. We also encourage our participants to join us and present on our own Fire Warden training courses, to give them added confidence and experience, should they require it.

Resource Materials:

Who should attend?

This course is ideal for trainers assigned with responsibility for training within your organisation or for those involved in training on a consultative basis.

Certification

A 5-year Fire Warden-Marshal Instructor Certificate and Instructor Card is awarded to all participants on successful completion of this course.

Participant Requirements

Ideally, participants should have an existing training qualification to QQI Level 6 or better, particularly if they intend training on a consultative basis.
